Draco
The draco(dragon) was used began being used after the Romans conquered the Dacians under Trajan. After this, they adopted the draco as a military standard. The draco was a golden dradon head with an open mouth and teeth on a tall pole. Attached to the dragon head was a cloth tail that closely resembled a wind sock. The idea was that when the draco was carried on the back of a quickly moving horse by a draconarius(dragon-bearer), the draco would make a hissing, whilstling, or droning sound. The romans might have copied the idea of the draco from the Dacians after a defeat, or from the Parthians.
In addition to being used in battle, the draco was used in cavalry games where the tail of the draco acted as a target and people could get points for hitting the tail.
